Superb large antique wooden Burmese Shan Buddhist Monk. This is probably the most beautiful piece of its type I have ever seen. It was restored sometime 40 or so years ago and put in to its current base. The way it was done is completely successful- the design work, re-gilding etc are all completely in harmony with the piece. Due to the climate in Burma, this type of wooden piece is typically beat up and worn, or is stripped, or is garishly repainted. This one is just right! It sits an impressive 17.5 inches tall including the base. Look closely at the photos, as there are losses and repairs before and after the restoration, as this is an old piece restored quite a while ago. A beautiful object.
