Country Group: South and Southeast Asia (Thailand, Burma, Laos, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Vietnam)
Very uncommon "Cham" bronze figure from Southern Vietnam. As with the Khmer (Cambodian) type, they mix Buddhist and Hindu iconography, and flourished in the centuries around the 10th to 13th centuries, give or take a century or two. Closely related to Khmer style, but from a different Kingdom which was east of Khmer empire. They were smaller than Khmer kingdom, and mostly produced stone sculpture, so you very rarely seen bronzes of this type. The faces (to my eye) are much friendlier and happy looking. Loss of forearms as seen in the photos. One of very few of its type I've come across in 25+ years. Bronze is 6 3/8 inches tall, height on custom base is 9 inches. Item #4045 is a stone Cham example, and 6840 may possibly be Cham.
