Country Group: The Himalayas (Tibet, Nepal, Mongolia and Other)
Superb and Very Large Antique Buddhist Monk Portrait Sculpture. Unsure of country of origin. Magnificent in every way. Old loss of one pinky and one small split on the base on the back- otherwise perfect. Massive for a carving of this type, detail and quality at 18 7/8 inches tall. Likely spent much of its life in the west, protected behind glass or up on a shelf. I can't imagine how else it would have this patina- that of a fine piece of 19th century furniture. White in the crevices is encrusted dust and dirt
