Major Sculpture of Krisna with his (original separate silver) flute. Extremely large at 19 inches tall, 20.5 inches on custom base, and UNBELIEVABLY heavy. Silver laid on the surface and possible silver in the alloy. Looks as if the skin of the entire figure was originally covered in a layer of silver (much thicker than gilding typically is) and had precious stone eyes (I like to think rubies). Probably 18thC or earlier, and probably from Gujarat or Bengal. Loss to part of one ear. Bottom of base measures 7 inches square. One of the best Indian pieces in my collection. Superb quality. Has real charisma.
Good bye old friend- I'll miss piece
