Item id: 8051

An early northern Thai Buddha- probably 15th Century. Good size at 10-1/8 inches tall, 8.25 inches wide, 4 inches deep. New custom base now elevates it to 12.5 inches tall. This Buddha has an interesting and extremely rare type of 2 tone patina- you can see the difference between the robes and the skin. I've seen this effect on a few Burmese and Nepalese Buddhas, but never before on a Thai example. Right hand appears to have had fingers re-carved, possibly after fingertips were damaged. Possibly some re-carving to the face-possibly due to original casting flaw. It is not uncommon with early northern Thai Buddhas to see the bases removed to make other Buddha images during periods of scarcity of metals.
