Country Group: The Himalayas (Tibet, Nepal, Mongolia and Other)
Finely and deeply carved stele of 2 Hindu or Buddhist Deities, with Garuda above, and attendants to either side. It comes from the collection of a gentleman who spent considerable time in Nepal while his wife worked on blindness prevention research. He felt that it probably spent much of its life in a niche inside a temple wall. He believed that it was very old.
It is in good condition, with wear, but no losses. It is made of a fairly heavy wood (it weighs 35.8 ouches. Stands 9" tall by 2 and 3/8 inches thick by 6 and 1/4 inches wide. It was hard to photograph- (the pictures are not the very best, but I did as best I could) the colors are slightly different than any of the photos but a little closer to the last 3 pictures.
