A rare 16/17th C Japanese Iron Cross with Buddha. I've owned 3 of these over 25 years, and have seen one other at an auction. I've been told they were used by early Japanese Christians, who were persecuted by the Shoguns, and wanted to show that they still respected the Buddha. This pieces measures 9.75 inches tall, 7.75 inches wide, 0.5 inches at deepest point (approximately) and 12.5 inches on custom base.
