Early Southeast Asian Bronze Drum (Heger Type I). This drum belongs to the classic Heger Type I classification—the foundational category used in scholarly literature for early mainland Southeast Asian bronze drums. Heger Type I drums were produced from the late Dong Son period (approximately 1,500 years ago) through the transitional era leading to the later frog drums of about 500 years ago, which continue to be used throughout Southeast Asia today.

This example measures 11" tall × 21" wide (drum only) and 29.5" high when displayed on its 19th-century wooden stand. The stand shows expected age-related wear, including damage, repairs, and areas of loss, but remains an attractive and historically complementary base. Originally priced at $5,000, this is an early, well-patinated, and culturally important bronze drum—an iconic form central to Southeast Asian archaeological history.
