Country Group: The Himalayas (Tibet, Nepal, Mongolia and Other)
Massive 18thC or earlier Nepalese Mask. It is used during a certain holiday on which beer flows through the mouth of the mask into the jugs of waiting celebrants. It shows considerable wear and some expectable repainting, though some of the colors look much earlier than others. The quality of the carving is very good. It is common for these to show layers of renovation, as they are used in celebrations year after year for generations. Some expectable splits, but they appear superficial, and the entire piece seems solid. Comes with a custom wall mount (shown in one of the photos). Measures an impressive 21.25 x 15 x 6.5 inches.
