Country Group: The Himalayas (Tibet, Nepal, Mongolia and Other)
Very uncommon statue- appears to be ceramic over a solid clay core. Hands and head appear to have been made separately and been attached to body as part of original manufacturing process. One hand and foot have significant repair. Very large- especially for a solid figure, at approximately 10.5" tall, base is 6.5" x 5.25". A heavy, substantial Monk- probably 17/18th century- the face, lacquer and other elements look early Qing/Ching, or even very late Ming. Great presence. Tibet or China. While there are some relatively minor condition issues, it is rare to find a 17/18thC solid ceramic/clay core piece of this type in this very large size in any condition- especially one of such good quality, with such a great face, and with such a great overall composition.
