Country Group: The Himalayas (Tibet, Nepal, Mongolia and Other)
18thC Fierce Deity in Yab Yum, with cast mark (worn). Measures 6 7/16" tall. The expressiveness of the main figure, especially the look in his eyes, is very powerful and intense. It is as good as the quality found in the very best of Tibetan bronze sculpture. It is especially difficult to get this look in the animal headed deities with non-human faces-the sculptor of this piece manages to sculpt a near masterpiece. I almost never buy pieces with reign marks cast on the front, as they are either too expensive for me to buy or are fake. In this case, the piece was not fake, and I simply could not resist the intensity of the piece.
