Country Group: The Himalayas (Tibet, Nepal, Mongolia and Other)
10/11thC, and likely Tibet or Nepal, with a strong Pala influence in the face. It is the Bodhisattva of long life with a beautiful classic and seren face. Sits 4.5 inches tall - 5.75 on custom base. I believe this is an early himalayan bronze, rather than the far more common 17/18th century revival type. The quality, very small size, solid casting, extensive wear, and overall look and feel all strongly support piece being early piece, rather than the more common revival type made in the 17/18thC, I'm sure there are those of you reading this who have more expertise on the exact origin than I do, and if you send me an email, I am happy to include more information in the description.I’ve owned this 25 years and never seen another of its type (especially the remarkable backplate).
