RARE 14/15thC Sukhothai bronze ball that makes jingling sound when shook. Approx 1 and 7/8 inches across. Makes a beautiful metallic sound when shook. The legend is that the dogs would bark when the Burmese invaders would come marching/riding towards them and the ground would shake. The balls, which would be inside the temple walls, would shake and make the distinctive metallic sound. This would act as an early warning system which would allow the Sukothai people to prepare for the oncoming invasion. I've seen 4 of these balls over the pat 30 years. Two of them came out of a small private museum in sukhothai (he had 3 of them but would only sell 2) that was closing down, and the other was purchased in Bangkok in a high end antique shop about 20 years later. All 3 came with the same story. Unique item
