Remarkable 17thC or earlier Tibetan Buddhist Portrait Statue of a Monk in copper. Some damage to the back of the base in the spot where a hand would naturally apply pressure when holding it or picking it up. He also sits a little unevenly on the base- otherwise near perfect, with most of original (high quality) gilding intact. This piece measures 4 inches tall and 5.25 inches on his custom modern base. He is holding a finely worked incense burner in one hand and a fly whisk in the other. Most amazing feature of this statue is his wizened old face-with head cocked slightly to one side- he is at once kind and alert, with a joyful twinkle in his eye- as distinctive and special as any monk I have offered. I would love to have known him. I believe this piece was made during this Monk's lifetime.
