Country Group: The Himalayas (Tibet, Nepal, Mongolia and Other)
Rare 19thC Tibetan Madala- done as a very complex woodblock on hand spun cloth and then hand painted. Looks to have recently been professionally been cleaned and pressed. Some of the colors may have been re-painted/touched up over time as part of normal maintenance. Some normal darkening and staining, but overall in excellent condition for this type of piece. Much rarer than a traditional Thangka. The inner image measures 17.5" x 17" and the total thangka measures 20.5" x 20".
