Item id: 8520

Authentic 15thC Fang (Northern Thai) Buddha. Very distinctive type, with its detailed finial, long neck, big eyes which originally had black stone pupils, and distinctive body shape. This Buddha is exceptional in the beautiful design on the base. I've seen this type of design on a few other examples, but it was not as well executed as on this one. This piece measures at 8 5/8", which is larger than the majority of its type that are typically 25% smaller in size. The patina is in the process of changing into what the Thai's refer to as a "green skin", which means the minerals are leeching out of the metal and causing the surface to change from brown to green, literally from the inside-out. Old collection sticker on the back, as shown in one photo.
