Scarce Haripunchai style glass Buddha from the 12/13th century. This type is generally in stucco or stone and occasionally in bronze. This is one of only two glass ones I've seen in over 25 years of searching, and the other was not made of this special, very heavy, distinctive glass and did not have such a compelling face. It is also the oldest Thai glass Buddha I have seen by at least 100+ years. Sits 1 3/8" tall and 3 3/8" on its custom base. Beautifully carved and in excellent condition. This kind of glass reportedly has precious metal mixed into it, so it develops a patina as it reacts with the soil during long burial. You will never see another. Could probably be cleaned to bring out a much clearer face and other features, but I've not wanted to touch it(I bought it from a farmer in 1987 who dug it up in the jungle in the 1960s near Lamphun, Thailand, which was the site of the old center of the ancient Haripunchai Kingdom)Domestic shipping is included, and international shipping is $50, including packing and insurance to anywhere in the world.
