19th to early 20thC gilded bronze Tibeto-Chinese monk/lama statue. Well cast and finely sculpted. This may be the the largest nice quality antique gilded monk I have ever offered for sale. Unsure how date precisely. Wear, quality and style of casting and incisement work done after casting, and finishing work all suggest that he is at least approaching 100 years of age. The color did not come out perfectly in the photos- he is a bit richer gold- the color of normal gilding-in the photos he has a slightly yellow, over saturated cast. Note the wonderful and very distinctive shape to the top of his head-with its 3 sides-these also create a very singular forehead with a knowledge bump. He measures 9.75" tall, and is quite heavy for his size. He is especially substantial due to his square shape and extremely thick casting. The thickness of the casting is especially remarkable given his large size.
