Country Group:South and Southeast Asia (Thailand, Burma, Laos, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Vietnam)
Item id: 8560

Very fine 16thC Late Ava/early Shan Buddha. This type is much rarer and completely different than the 18/19thC shan style, which is far more common (and typically not as expensive if it can be found in comparable quality). This one was bought by the previous owner while living in Thailand, approx. 35 years ago in a high end antique shop in Bangkok that is still in business, for approx $3,000. My price is less than 2/3 that amount, and if it does not sell I will move it to my personal collection. Very hard to photograph due to the complex surface, but it is one of the nicest of its type I have seen. Sits 7.5 inches tall.
