This is a delightful and very uncommon Cambodian bronze Buddha sculpted during the 18th, and possibly 17th century. It has influence from the nearby Ayuthaya style which was flourishing in nearby Thailand at the same time. It also has strong influence from Laos, although the face, style of base, body shape, and overall feel make this Buddha most likely from Cambodia. Excellent condition- some loss to the base which I believe is original to the casting. The base and Buddha, and very top of the head and finial, may have been cast separately. The feeling radiating from the gentle, loving face is quite special- spend time looking at the photos. He was quite expensive to purchase, and I thought long and hard before buying him myself, but I’ve learned to buy the Buddhas that speak to me, and that they will always find a good home (if with no one else, with me!). Nice size- Sits just over 10 inches tall and extremely heavy, as the base is partially filled with lead, which is not uncommon for Cambodian Buddhas.
