Country Group: China, Japan and Korea
Set of Five 17th/18th Century (or Earlier) Bronze Lohan Heads. A rare and beautifully cast group of five Lohan (Arhat) heads, dating to the 17th–18th century or earlier. Each head measures approximately 7⅝ inches tall including the base, with the bronze portions themselves about 5 inches in height—an impressive and desirable size for works of this type.
Originally, these would have formed part of a larger set of eighteen, and it is remarkable to find five well-matched examples preserved together after so many centuries. The casting quality, expressive features, and spiritual presence of the group make them a particularly compelling offering. A harmonious and rare assemblage of early Chinese Buddhist sculpture.
