Extremely animated Korean Buddha which literally reaches out in devotion. He was given the dating of 10/11thC by the previous owner, who had a number of early Korean bronzes and who had owned him for many years, although he was not positive about the dating. I am POSITIVE that this Buddha is ancient, although I am not sure about the specific century. I have never seen another like him in person or in any book. Everything about him, from the face to the patina, to the proportions, to the overall feel is simply wonderful. He has been in my permanent collection, but I can't keep them all, so I offer him here for your consideration. He sits 5 inches tall, and is quite heavy at 17.8 ounces with no clay core. The upper part of the figure is solid cast. The size is good for such an early Korean Buddha- keep in mind that he has no base and he has no finial, so the actual figure is one that would sit a good 8 inches with a typical base and flame such as that found on most Buddhas. He retains some of the original lacquer (off white and pale orange-red). One of a kind! Korean Buddhas are uncommon to begin with- this one is uncommon even among Korean Buddhas.
