Item id: 8750

Fine Mongolian applique Thangka of dancing skeletons (Citipati). 20th century but made with antique material. Each color material has a different pattern and weave. Striking example of its type, with complex imagery. Most of these are sold as 18/19thC- almost all on the market today are made in the 20th century, made with (very hard to find) antique material, and they were made by the few people left under communist rule who still were trained in the traditional ways of making these exactly correctly. I had not bought one in almost 10 years until I saw this one. Purchased directly from a Mongolian friend whom I have known for 25 years who used to find amazing things for me in the 1990's, and now only rarely finds things I want to buy. He now wants to buy bronzes from me to sell to Chinese collectors and dealers who come to Mongolia, as they are more expensive there than in the USA. Measures 26.5 inches x 26.5 inches.
