Country Group: The Himalayas (Tibet, Nepal, Mongolia and Other)
This antique Tibetan thangka is remarkable for its rare ink-like painting technique, which lends the image extraordinary delicacy and a mandala-like presence unlike typical pigment-based works. According to the previous owner, it was acquired by his grandfather in Asia during World War II and was already considered old at that time—placing its likely age at around 100 years. The piece has been custom-framed with museum glass and Thai silk matting, elevating both its beauty and preservation. Exceptional in quality and rarity, I have seen only one closely related example in 30 years (item 8748). The thangka measures 17 × 12 inches, with an overall framed size of 22.75 × 17.5 × 0.75 inches. Starting price lowered.
