Country Group: The Himalayas (Tibet, Nepal, Mongolia and Other)
A shimmering Mongolian devotional tapestry of a scarce and highly desirable type, machine-woven approximately 50–70 years ago. Pieces of this quality and subject are exceptionally rare—I have encountered only two related examples in the past 25 years, one of which is listed on my website as #7125. When acquired, this work appeared dark and muted, but after a single professional cleaning—something I had never attempted before—it revealed its true brilliance. The transformation was extraordinary: the once-subdued image now radiates vivid golds, rich detailing, and a luminous presence. Woven in synthetic fibers, likely during the period of Russian rule, it remains a striking devotional artifact. It measures 16.25 × 21 inches and would look superb framed.
