Offered for your consideration- a large and fine crisply cast Northern Thai Buddha of haunting beauty. He is thickly cast of very fine bronze. The eyes have what looks to be the original inlay, which is quite rare to find- this adds greatly to the intensity of his wonderful face. There are traces of deep red lacquer deep in the crevices of the base, the hair, and behind the ears which indicate that he was originally lacquered and probably gilded. He has some features related to Laos Buddhas (the finial, the ears), but he is most certainly Thai) The deep, rich patina suggests that his lacquer wore away long ago. This fellow sits 15.5 inches tall by 11 inches wide by 8 inches deep and weighs an astonishing 24 pounds with very little clay core.
