Early Northern Thai "Saenkajai"- The legend is is that he was confused by many as being the Buddha, so he made himself fat. Considered to bring good fortune, protection, and abundance. There are many later pieces on the market (including many fakes), but extremely few true early ones from Northern Thailand. Sits only 1 5/8 inches tall, but larger than life!! Solid cast-superbly sculpted and finished. The consensus of the Thai collectors and dealers / I showed this to is that it is an authentic period piece (15/16thC), though so unique (and solid cast) that it is hard to date. I've never seen another quite like it.
