Country Group: South and Southeast Asia (Thailand, Burma, Laos, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Vietnam)
This piece is a 17th century late Ava early Shan style Burmese wood buddha. It is in remarkably good condition for a 300-400 year old buddha made of wood. Part if the reason for this is because it is made of one solid piece of teak wood. The other reason is because the original lacquer covering the surface is almost completely intact. The back of the base has a carved out chamber that was likely filled with a consecration at one time. This Buddha has a particularly compelling face. This type is a personal favorite. Measures 22 1/2 inches tall x 11 inches across x 5 inches deep.
