Country Group: The Himalayas (Tibet, Nepal, Mongolia and Other)
This is a very early and rare Hindu Terracotta piece of the Bodhisattva of Compassion, from Nepal, India, or Bangladesh. The previous owner who is a fairly knowledgeable collector believed that it is 9/10th century or earlier. Holding it and examining it, it is clear that it is very old, although I do not know how to date it myself. As is common on early terracotta, there are significant repairs. There are traces of gold color which looks to be modern, possibly as part of a repair. It is a very good size at 12.5 inches tall by 8 inches wide by 2 inches deep.
