Very rare, large, thickly cast Korean iron Buddha, executed in an early backless style. Based on its casting, proportions, and stylistic features, it is likely 13th–14th century, though an even earlier date is possible. Exceptionally large for this type, the figure stands 16⅛ inches tall (not including its recently made museum-style custom base). The surface retains a beautiful, smooth, untouched patina, the kind only found on early iron sculptures that have been preserved with great care. The separately cast hands are missing, which is typical for early Korean iron Buddhas.

The base of the figure measures 4¼ inches in diameter, and the Buddha’s serene, peaceful expression gives the piece a powerful spiritual presence. Large early Korean iron Buddhas are extremely uncommon, and examples of this size, quality, and condition are almost never seen outside museum collections or scholarly publications. A rare opportunity to acquire a truly significant work of early Korean Buddhist art.
