Superb 17thC Burmese Ava Buddha carved in Alabaster. This is a stellar example in every way. Large size, outstanding condition, beautiful skillful carving, and most importantly, it has an exquisite face that lights up the world. Traces of more than one layer of lacquer (both red and black). Often this type of Buddha was found in caves in large numbers. My best understanding is that the multiple Buddhas amplified the spiritual power of the location. One of the nicest of this type I've ever had the pleasure of offering. Will fill up any room with its presence. Repair to the tip of the finial. Condition is exceptional for alabaster, which is much more likely to chip and crack than marble. Often this type of Buddha has significant breaks and losses. This one looks great -look at the photos carefully!! Sits an impressive 20" (50.08cm).
