Acue Kuan Yin statue, from the Dali Kingdom in southern China. the Dali Kingdom flourished around a thousand years ago and produced its own unique form of Chinese art. They were known for creating this distinctive form of Kuan Yin, known as Acue Quanyin. there are several large extremely beautiful versions of this form of the goddess in major museums around the world. Occasionally smaller more provincial ones show up on the market. I have had a few over the years, one of which is in my sold section. For the first few months after acquiring this bronze, I was not sure if this was a period piece. After living with it for a while I now believe it is an 11th to 13thC example. The quality, wear, and feeling of the piece all line up-remarkable- I've only seen one other of these folk art  Dali Kingdom Buddhist bronzes, and it was a fraction of the size of this one. If you've ever seen this type for sale or go up at auction, you know how valuable they are. If it does not sell in this auction, I will offer it in future auctions and will slowly lower the opening price until it eventually sells. While it is simple in design, the casting is very good and the finishing is excellent. The sculpting is remarkable- simple, yet it conveys so much. Spend time with the photos and you will see what I mean. H 18.25" (46.355cm). Very Special-Look at the Buddha in his Crown. Significant Wear.
