A mystery- A very special Buddha that I am still studying. Looks to be 18/19thC or earlier. I am not sure of country of origin-possibly Japan? Maybe Burma. It is extremely rare, after 30 years of collecting, for me to be certain a Buddha is an authentic old one but to not have a sense of what country it is from. The face looks similar to those Buddhas from the Pyu and Mon styles of Burmese bronzes-especially the bubble eyes and small mouths, which give him a friendly innocence. Some elements(tassles, construction of base, and the crown)appear to be related to Buddhist bronzes from Japan. A personal favorite. Loss to the top of the middle section of the crown. Otherwise in stellar condition, with a nice dark chocolate patina.
