Country Group: South and Southeast Asia (Thailand, Burma, Laos, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Vietnam)
Price reduced, This is an extremely uncommon Buddha, and one which shows the interplay between different cultures. It is a fascinating combination of and Shan style Burmese and Northern Thai style mixed together. The face is very much classic Shan, and the base is somewhat Shan. The body and casting method are Thai. This is likely because this piece was sculpted during the period when the Burmese destroyed the city of Ayuthaya and occupied parts of Northern Thailand. It was likely cast by Thai artisans sometime after 1767. The quality is exceptional. There are traces of gilding on the untouched patina. Sits 7.75 inches tall. Wonderful!
