14 /15thC Thai Figure. Sculpted out of Sawankalok, a Highly respected type of Thai ceramics that flourished from the 13th through the 15th centuries. The vast majority of what was produced was things like vases, cookware, dishes, and bowls, etc. There were some small figures and some larger figures. Any that I have seen were much more formulaic than this one. What I mean by that is that they were all much more similar to each other and that they all had a kind of consistency to them that this one does not. This one has a depth and personality and character to the figure that (to my mind) is rarely found in ancient Asian sculpture. The head appears to have been reattached. There are some other minor repairs that have been done over the years. A true one of a kind. Size is ( 8.75" H x 8" W x 6.25"D )
