10thC or Earlie Thai Buddha. Solid cast in a very early method. Rare trope. Stands 7.5 inches tall, height on custom stand is 9.5 inches. Very rare type. Significant wear. The base was made by a well regarded sculptor who treated each base as a sculpture itself. He created a patina and shape and proportion for the base that complemented the particular sculpture he was making it for. Because he worked in thickly cast metal, it took a considerable amount of time to craft each base. If he would’ve charged the full cost of making it particularly for this sculpture, and I had to pay for his time to sculpt something comparable I would’ve paid more than $1000 for the base alone. He enjoyed the process of making them, and would work on making them when he did not have other projects, so he let them go for a fraction of what they would’ve gone for if they were a small sculpture.
