13/14thC Thai Stone Buddha Head- Sweet! For many centuries, up until the 13th or 14th centuries, in Northern Thailand, south of Chiang Mai, (under Cambodian domination during the Khmer Empire) , existed the Haripunchai Kingdom. It blends Khmer and Thai Sculpture in a unique way. Usually, the Haripunchai sculpture is more serious than this piece. the face is usually more angular and more warlike and less accessible. This one is an extremely friendly happy Buddha. Several people who have seen him have broken into laughter-a wonderful trait for a Buddha. He has a place of honor facing my front door right now.
