19th century or earlier Large Sukhothai (Thai) Bronze Buddha. Large, Lovely. Serene.
This piece has extremely thin casting to the walls, especially for such a large, high-quality Buddha. It may be that it was cast at a time when bronze was in high demand. I have been told this was a reason for casting Buddhas in this way, especially in Thailand during times of War. I have been told that sometimes the bases would also be removed during bronze shortages and melted down to be used for other purposes, especially for making other Buddhas. The main thing was to leave the Buddha's body fully intact.
