18/19thC Ascetic bronze Buddha from Thailand before enlightenment, during a period when the buddha sat steadfast under the Bodhi tree. It comes from a type originally sculpted during the Gandharan period, and then sculpted rarely in the 1800 years since. The best emulations in the past several hundred years that I am aware of are all from Thailand or Burma, as is this one. Extremely fine example in every way, from the sculpting, to casting, to patina, finishing, to condition. 18/19thC- hard to date more precisely than that. Measures 6 inches x 4 inches x 2.25 inches, but seems much larger in presence.
