18/19thC Ascetic bronze Buddha from Thailand before enlightenment, during a period in the historical Buddha's life when he sat steadfast under the Bodhi tree. It comes from a type originally sculpted during the Gandharan period and then sculpted only rarely in the 1800 years since. The best emulations in the past several hundred years that I am aware of are from Thailand or Burma, as is this one. An extremely fine example in every way, from the sculpting to casting, to patina, finishing, to condition. 18/19thC- hard to date more precisely than that. Measures 6 inches x 4 inches x 2.25 inches, but is much larger in presence. Very special.Start price lowered significantly.
