Country Group: South and Southeast Asia (Thailand, Burma, Laos, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Vietnam)
This is an incredible folk piece from Burma made entirely of Lacquer mixed with ash. It has a very sweet face. Probably Mon and the age looks to be early, no later than the 17/18th century. This Buddha could easily be 14/15th century, as the only other very thickly formed Buddha of this type I have encountered which was made in the same way as this one had a 15thC date assigned to it. Sits 9" tall (Buddha only). Has a new custom-made museum-style base. Unique!
