A 15/16thC solid cast Chinese Ming Bronze Baby Buddha. He is pointing to heaven and earth as witnesses to his birth. In excellent condition. This Buddha stands on a museum-style custom base.7" not including the base. Outstanding example of its type-for several reasons. Other than his museum base, he retains most of his original gilding, which is a very rare feature. He has a particularly sweet and charismatic face. Most of these are 5 to 6 inches tall. He is approximately 7 inches tall. His posture is a bit more lively than most. Overall, when you take it all into account, he is a special one. The only loss is the pointing finger, which is very common. Sometimes this is deliberate, as I have been told that this was broken off by the family of the owner found the birth of a child. I don’t know if this is true. It sounds good. It’s not surprising that after 500 years that tiny little skinny finger pointing up at the very top of the statue might get lost. This is the Buddha just after his birth, pointing towards the heaven and earth reportas witness that he has just been born and is here!
