15thC Indonesian Bronze "Sultan Mangkoenagoro" or "Noble Boy"-Look at the photos- Not only do I consider it the best Indonesian bronze I have ever owned, but one of the best bronze sculptures of any kind I have ever owned (and that is saying a lot). While not as sophisticated as some, it is superbly cast, with subtle curves to the body, and crisp casting to the features of the face and hair, and hands. The finishing work creates a smooth, sensuous feel that complements the continuous curving of his baby-fat muscles. Finally, the patina, between the smooth surface and the Beautiful green color is beginning to cover the entire statue-the color is determined by the minerals that were in the alloy used that are now leaching out from within the metal. . As good or better than the best in examples on the web.I have searched for any examples of this subject that I can find in we're on the web or in commonly available resources. there are quite a number of examples that appear to have been made in the 14 and 15th centuries during the Majapahit era and shortly after. Some of them are a little fancier than this one in that they have some of the standard ornamentations that Majapahit bronze sculptures typically have. others are quite similar to this one. a few are sitting on the ground with their legs to the side. Most of them had bells on them as it was said that this made them easier to find. All of the other examples that I saw were smaller than this one, and none of them were as finely cast or finished. Not even close in my opinion. this is the only one that I am aware of that has this finally worked chain belt around his waist and howling animal pendant around his neck. The price is high, but you will not find another that compares.
