This piece is from China or Korea, and is one of only three of this style I have handled in 30 years—by far the largest, and the only one with this unusual lead-alloy integral base, which appears original. The Buddha itself measures 7 inches, considerably larger than a comparable example sold by Koller in June 2016 (lot 175), which measured 4 7/8 inches without its base. Koller described theirs as Chinese, 6th-century Sui, with a pre-sale estimate of 2,000–3,000 Swiss francs; their results often exceed estimates.
