Striking 13th Century Standing Burmese Bronze Buddha Late Pagan Style with Early Ava Influences. This powerful and thickly cast 13th-century Burmese standing Buddha represents a late Pagan-period aesthetic enriched with early Ava stylistic influence. The figure is large, heavy, and commanding—its presence immediately felt when viewed in person.

One of the most remarkable features is the treatment of the robe. The rippled folds, which trace their lineage back to Buddhist sculpture of the 1st millennium, were created using an extremely unusual and labor-intensive technique: each ripple was applied individually on top of the robe, rather than being carved or cast directly into the surface. While this method is known on a handful of early bronzes, it is exceptionally rare, and I have not seen it employed on a large standing Pagan Buddha of this type before.

The casting overall is superb—bold, confident, and beautifully proportioned. The sculpture is substantial in weight (approximately 10.54 lbs / 4.780 kg) and is presented on a newly crafted museum-style custom base. The photographs tell the story: this is a very special piece with exceptional casting quality, unusual robe execution, and striking historical character. A rare and important example of late Pagan bronze sculpture.
