This is a 10/11thC "Haripunchai" style terracotta Buddha. Haripunchai was a kingdom in North-Central Thailand that had close ties (both politically and artistically) to the Khmer empire in Cambodia. I've had a number of pieces related to this one over the years as the center of the Hari punchai Kingdom was near the modern day city ofLamphun, Which is south of Chiang Mai in Northern Thailand. Over a. Of 30 years I've made about 50 trips to that area and I developed close friendships with locals. I was able to acquire some wonderful Crystal Buddhas and Clay pieces like this which I've held on to for a very long time and am only putting up for sale recently. Note item 2581, Which I purchased almost 20 years earlier than this piece, but which I believe probably came out of the same mold a thousand years ago. They would look fantastic displayed together. Item 7379 is another lovely Haripunchai Item.( 4.75"H x 3"W ) - 225g
