This is a very striking carving of a Buddha or bodhisattva head on a custom base carved into a pair of shoulders. The head is carved from a huge, highly fractured, brilliant green Crystal Flourite. The base is the type used for 19th-century Chinese Sculptures such as Buddha heads. I'm not an expert on stone. I've seen three or four carvings out of this type in this same type of Flourite over the decades. They've all been this fractured and were this brilliant green (not enhanced). They all appeared to be antique sculptures, though the others, with the exception of the other one I have listed on my website, did not have a custom base like this one.
It is hard to show in the photographs how skillfully the sculptor used the fractures to the best advantage in carving the face and head. The face is expressive and lively in a way that is very hard create. I imagine it would be especially difficult to do this in a highly fractured material. ( 8.5"H x 5.5"W ) - 3.71lbs / 1.680kg.
