Extremely large 19th Century Korean bronze Baby Buddha, depicted pointing to heaven and earth as witness to his first steps—a special form found only in China, Japan, and Korea. This is the largest bronze Baby Buddha I have ever encountered. Although I initially suspected it was Japanese, close study of the face, head form, and body proportions confirms classic Korean characteristics. Finely cast with an attractive (possibly applied) black patina. Massive and powerfully present at 22.5 inches tall x 7 inches wide x 7 inches deep, thick-walled, crisply detailed, and very heavy. An exceptional and rare example of this revered form.
