Rare 16th/17th Century standing Burmese “Jambupati” bronze Buddha, solid cast and exhibiting an extremely unusual sculpting and casting style. Likely reflecting a blend of Ava and Arakan influence, this piece is highly distinctive—I have been unable to find a comparable example of this type, especially in a size this large.
The figure stands an impressive 20 3/8 inches tall (or 22.25 inches on its custom stand) and is very heavy. There is loss to the crown and some loss to the feet, all clearly visible in the photos. Otherwise, there are no hidden repairs or damage—the piece is exactly as shown.
A striking and rare large-scale Burmese bronze with exceptional presence.
