Country Group: The Himalayas (Tibet, Nepal, Mongolia and Other)
Very special antique Mongolian ritual “book,” featuring superb illustrations and highly unusual, beautifully decorated covers. The pages contain numerous finely executed drawings, each rendered with exquisite detail, accompanied by meticulously written script clearly produced by a master scribe for ceremonial use. Likely 19th century, and possibly earlier.
The subject matter appears to relate to astrology, judging from the iconography and diagrammatic elements. Of all the Mongolian books I have encountered, this example displays the finest artistry—exceptional in quality, precision, and visual richness.
Dimensions: 7.5" wide x 2.5" tall x 0.5" thick; 73 sides total. A remarkable and rare work of Mongolian sacred art.
