This is a truly beautiful and special sculpture- a solid cast Shiva standing on Nandi. It is from India, but looks to have influence from colonial India. The sculpting and casting are wonderful, and the surface is sublime- it is a buttery smooth golden brown- most people want to reach out and touch him, as he has such a sensuous feel, which is interesting given his plump, almost child-like body. The Shiva is separately cast, and attaches by one foot, which has a post inserts in to the back of Nandi. He balances so perfectly and is made so well, that you can change the direction that Siva faces with ease. The entire piece stands quite solidly. He is large and quite heavy- he stands 14 inches tall and weighs over 129 ounces. The Shiva by himself weighs over 77 ounces.
